"Restorative yoga is typically known as the yummy practice, the luxurious practice, the one you do every now and then because you need a treat, like having a massage. But much more can happen in a restorative class. Really, it’s a very advanced practice." - Jillian Pransky

Quite often, people come to a yoga studio saying they wish to address needs such as aching muscles, sore backs, wanting to alleveiate stress and tension in the body.  A Restorative yoga practice is one to consider when seeking relief from these conditions.

In a Restorative class, you can expect to use props such as bolsteres and blankets to support the body in the pose. There is no sense of competition in class and no goal to strengthen the body. Rather is it about nurturing your mind, body and spirit.  Once in restorative postures, the need for the muscles to exert any effort is reduced or elimiated. The result is a release of muscular tension.  The mind can then go into a relaxed stated, allowing the nervous system to balance and promiting energy flow through the body. Relaxation is known to boost immune reponse,  therefore giving the physical body the opportunity to heal and repair.
